In honor of Cinco de Mayo, here’s a recipe for sangria. It’s really easy to make and easy to customize. Some people like to use different fruit: peaches, cherries, pineapple, grapes, etc. Some like to top it off with club soda or Sprite. Some people use different liquors like brandy or triple sec or no liquor at all. It’s all a matter of taste.
Not only is sangria delicious, it’s a great way to use up mediocre wine. And with all the fresh fruit, you can pretend you’re having something healthy!
Ingredients:
- 1 bottle rosé wine
- 1 bottle red wine
- 2 apples, peeled and cut into 1″ cubes
- 2 limes, thinly sliced
- 2 oranges – cut into eighths, then each eighth cut into a “cube”
- Juice of 2 oranges
- Juice of 2 lemons and/or limes
- 1 cup dark rum
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
Instructions:
- Pour wine into a large pitcher
- Add all the other ingredients
- Stir thoroughly
- Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour (up to 1 day)
- Serve over ice – make sure you get a bit of fruit in each glass
Makes enough sangria for 6-8 people or 2 really heavy drinkers.
